Teacher Interview

Published by jayhawk77 under Uncategorized

I asked the teacher that I interviewed five questions on how she and the school district use and view technology.  The first question I asked the teacher was what kinds of technology that she and her school had available?  She said that every teacher in the school has a computer, many have a projector and projection screen in there rooms, and everyone has access to a set of clickers.  She said as the physical education teacher she has been given her own personal lap top, an iPod with speakers to put music for her activities on, and an indoor and outdoor stereo system.

The second question I asked was what kind of technology do you integrate into your lessons?  She said that she does not integrate technology too much into her lessons but would like to use her iPod more often because she feels like it would make all her music more accessible. She said that she does use the technology to do her grades and really makes the process of doing fitness testing much simpler.

The third question I asked was what do students learn by using technology?  She said especially during the fitness testing during each unit the students could use the computer to graph their progression in each activity.  By doing this the students could learn their exact percentage of gain in each activity they could even put in their weight and learn how to calculate their body mass index ratio.  She said by doing this the students and parents would be able to better understand the importance of physical education.

The fourth question I asked was what is your philosophy of educational technology?  She said that she feel that technology is very important and useful as long as it makes the lesson easier and not more complicated for the students or the teacher.  She said that she feels that at the elementary level you don’t have a lot of time to deal with messing with the technology.  She only gets to work with each class for twenty-five minutes each day and feels like some of the younger classes would be too confused by using new technology.

The fifth question I asked was how does your principal, administration, superintendent, and school district view technology in the classroom?  She said that technology would probably be the number one thing on their list.  In her district each school has their own lab technology teacher.  The district has three or four technology specialists that come around to their school at least once a week to inform and teach the staff about the new technology.

I think that if you talk to most teachers they would tell you that one of the most important things is teaching the students all the ways of obtaining information and the main one these days is through new technology.  I feel that it is very important to use technology in the classroom because I think it increases the students’ chances to understand the information.  There are many ways of using technology in every classroom and I feel that every teacher should use these to their advantage.
